Annual Poetry Slam

Entries for the annual poetry competition for middle and high school students may be submitted to poetryslam@plainfield.lib.il.us from March 6- April 14. Only electronic entries will be accepted. Send your original work and submit as many different poems as you like. The Slam will be on April 29 at 7:00 pm. + More Info


Get Green at Home: Check Out a Kill-a-Watt Meter Reader

The Library now has two Kill-a-watt meter readers donated by ComEd, available for two-week check-out. The meter readers will help you determine if your appliances are using too much energy to run. You can plug it into any 3-pronged wall outlet, a computer, lamps, appliances, etc. to learn how efficient or wasteful those devices really are. + More Info

Fine Threshold Raised to $10.00

The Library Board recently approved raising the fine threshold from $5.00 to $10.00. What this means for you is that you can accumulate up to $10.00 in fines before being blocked from using the Library's PCs or from checking out materials. It's not much, but with the economy the way it is, this might make a small difference. + More Info


Woman's Day magazine Essay Contest

Woman's Day magazine and American Library Association team up each year with an essay contest about how libraries have changed people's lives. The focus this year is on how the local library saves you money. Submit your 700 words or less essay by May 9th and you could be featured in an upcoming article in Woman's Day!
